Resumen: This standard specifies a method for the determination of water permeability in water-saturated piercing cylinder soil samples. The water permeability of a water-saturated soil depends on the size, shape and continuity of the voids, on the soil structure, the characteristics of the secondary pores and on the content of organic matter and can vary greatly, especially in inhomogeneous soils, according to the direction of flow. It is an important parameter for characterizing the water balance of a soil, for estimating physico-chemical sorption processes, for assessing the mechanical filtering properties and for evaluating the erosion susceptibility and drainability of soils. The method described in this standard is applicable to peat soils and mineral soils in groundwater-free horizons with low coarse soil content. The committee NA 119-08-02 AA "Chemische und physikalische Verfahren" in DIN is responsible for this standard.
